USDA Confirms Prosecution of Lovelace Institute; Albuquerque Lab Piled up 16 Federal violations, multiple animal Deaths, Injuries & Escapes

ALBUQUERQUE, NM  – Documents received today from the USDA confirm that the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute is the target of an "Investigative and Enforcement Services (IES) open
investigation (Case Number NM-150003-AC)."

USDA correspondence received today in response to a FOIA request by SAEN also states that " . . . disclosing pages of documents which are part of an open investigation by Aphis' Investigative and Enforcement Services would harm the agency's interest in effectively enforcing APHIS-administered statutes.  Release of this information could harm the integrity of the agency's investigative and enforcement process . . ."

Research Institute (LRRI) of Albuquerque (NM) has amassed a shocking sixteen federal violations relevant to multiple animal deaths, injuries, and escapes in only one year.

The most recent (6/1/15) USDA inspection of LRRI revels new violations for the negligent death of a dog and three monkey escapes.

Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! (SAEN), a National Research Watchdog Organization, which has filed multiple Official Complaints with the USDA against Lovelace applauds the prosecution of this criminal facility.

"The Lovelace lab has flouted the authority of the USDA and the Animal Welfare Act for far too long," said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T., Co-Founder, SAEN.

The Lovelace lab has previously (2011) been fined $21,750 by the USDA.  Every USDA inspection of Lovelace since July of 2013 has contained multiple serious violations.

“The USDA  should make an example of the Lovelace lab because this facility is unique in their utter disregard for animals, the Animal Welfare Act, and the authority of the USDA," added Budkie.

"Lovelace deserves a six-figure fine."

All USDA records are available upon request.
