2006 ATTN: Tuesday Assignment Desk LOS ANGELES, Ca. In the wake of recent actions by underground animal

10 a.m. at the UCLA Chancellor's Office (Murphy Hall, corner of Hilgard
and The news conference will reveal UCLA's efforts to mislead the public,
according to Cincinnati-based SAEN, a nonprofit organization which
investigates the treatment of animals in U.S. research laboratories, and a
co-sponsor of the news conference. SAEN will release internal UCLA documents detailing primate health care
records and experimental procedures, including those of former UCLA
researcher Dario Ringach, who quit doing animal research recently because
he was targeted by the Animal Liberation Front. "We hope to provide new and vital information regarding UCLA and the
raid by the Animal Liberation Front," said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T.,
Executive Director of SAEN. "Half-truths have been perpetuated by UCLA
because to UCLA animal experiments are not about science, but more about
attracting federal funding to UCLA," added Budkie. He said analysis by scientists found Ringach's research, which brought
millions of dollars to UCLA, was "a waste of precious and limited health
care and research resources." Speakers at the news conference will include Budkie, Chris DeRose (Last
Chance for Animals Founder and Director) and Kristy Anderson (President
University Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). -30- See: University of California, Los
