Group Calls For Fines After Battelle Guinea Pig Deaths
From 10TV.com, Monday, September 16, 2013
COLUMBUS, Ohio - An animal protection group is asking the government
to fine Battelle Biomedical Research after the death of two guinea pigs.
The company self-reported the incidents after they occurred last year,
according to The Columbus Dispatch.
"Stop Animal Exploitation Now" says one of the animals was cooked to
death and another drowned. They want the U.S. Department of Agriculture
to fine the company for violating the Animal Welfare Act.
The organization told the newspaper that Battelle could be fined $10,000
each for the guinea pig deaths and up to $40,000 for using workers
unqualified to care for animals
Battelle said the "unintended deaths" were thoroughly investigated.
