Animal-rights activists to target UC Riverside
From LA TimesBlogs, Saturday, July 14, 2012
Protesters plan to target UC Riverside on Saturday as part of a West
Coast anti-animal research campaign dubbed the “Open the Cages Tour,”
which includes demonstrations, concerts and film screenings.
The demonstration is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. at the corner of
University and Iowa avenues, according to the group's website -
Open the Cages Tour.
“We planned this tour to not only educate people about the fraudulent
scientific research and billions of taxpayer dollars that are invested
in dead-end animal trials,” organizers said in a statement. "The
suffering that beagle puppies, primates, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs and
other animals endure in these laboratories are not only a massive waste
of life but a waste of human knowledge as well."
Other cities on the tour include Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland,
Sacramento/Davis, Reno, Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Victoria & Vancouver,
Canada.
The tour is a collaborative effort among activists, filmmakers, artists
and musicians. It is sponsored by Stop Animal Exploitation Now (SAEN).
