Activists Rally Against Shock, Starvation, Injury To Animals
POSTED: 11:51 am PDT April 3, 2005 SAN DIEGO -- Animal activists from San Diego and Orange counties will
call for an end to animal experimentation Sunday at two science
conferences at the San Diego Convention Center, 10
News reported. The Union of the Physiological Sciences and the Experimental Biology
2005 conference will both be held at the convention center, said Jill
Fritz, president of San Diego Animal Advocates. The group opposes such alleged animal experiments as giving
electrical shocks to cats, starving pregnant sheep, inducing heart
attacks in dogs and causing spinal cord damage to felines, Fritz said.
"There's no immediate benefit," said Fritz. The billions of dollars spent on the torture of animals would be
better spent on preventive medicine and education, she said. "We're there because these experiments are cruel and wasteful," Fritz
said. The advocates will be at the convention center at noon to hand out
leaflets and confront those attending the conferences, Fritz said.
