Mr. Bradford, Mr. Resuta,
I am contacting you today because I have come into possession of
10 extremely
disturbing photos which purportedly come from the Primate Products facility in
the Miami, FL area.
These photos clearly depict highly invasive and barbaric experiments which would
cause extreme pain and suffering to the animals involved in them, as well as
eventually taking their lives. The apparent crudeness of the procedures argues
against any level of scientific applicability as well as compliance with federal
regulations.
The open wounds on the skulls, arms, etc. of these monkeys clearly represent
massive pain and suffering. The animals who underwent these procedures could
potentially have suffered from meningitis, encephalitis, or many other serious
medical conditions as a result of the experiments.
These photos must draw into question Primate Product’s compliance with virtually
all federal regulations involving experimentation and care of animals.
Therefore, I believe that it is extremely important that your facility take a
major step towards eliminating the controversy which now swirls around Primate
Products. This can only be accomplished by increased openness on your part.
Therefore, I officially request a tour of all Primate Products facilities in the
Miami, Florida, area. This inspection tour should be open to all news media in
the area as well as myself. As part of this tour I believe it is an absolute
necessity that I be provided access to all animals, all veterinary records for
animals at Primate Products and all active experimental protocols. This
information should provide a full and adequate picture of how Primate Products
treats animals.
Refusal of access to your facility can only be interpreted to mean that Primate
Products is afraid of public scrutiny and has serious issues which you feel that
you must hide. No other conclusion is possible.
I am prepared to take all necessary precautions regarding sterility etc. as I
have been trained as an Animal Health Technician.
I will look forward to receiving your response within 4 business days.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T.,
Executive Director, SAEN
